Brilliance/Fire

This piece is created with free form crochet and fused glass in an upcycled/recycled picture frame.  

The oranges, yellows and reds in the fused glass are both brilliant and fiery.  

This piece incorporates my love of all things crocheted, all things fiber arts, and all things glass.  

It was a very fun piece to create.

Free Form Crocheted Necklace with Pink Twisted Bead.  

I love pinks, blues, turquoises and purples, with purple being my favorite.  

When I think color wheel the cool side always comes to mind first because I love those colors the most. 

I used cotton crochet thread of a couple of different sizes over leather to support the necklace.  

As I crocheted I added Sterling Silver beads and cool colored 6.0 seed beads.  

The pink center focal bead is one of my glass lampwork handmade twisted beads.

Galaxy Necklace

When I started this year's Challenge, I thought to myself Galaxies are boring and how do you crochet either Galaxies or Weather?  To me those categories sounded extremely 'challenging' in themselves.  Then I did a search on the web for 'galaxies' and, oh my, I found out the Galaxies are not boring at all.  They are beautiful, colorful, bright and vivid!  Upon that discovery, I decided I had to make a galaxy. 

My necklace focal piece is made from crochet thread incorporating silver beads in it to represent the stars among the galaxy.  My necklace is made from beaded rope crochet and I incorporated random 'stars' among the black beads in the necklace allowing my Galaxy to be suspended in the universe among the stars.  

When looking at the beauty and the vastness of galaxies, I cannot help but see the hand of Master Creator who created the universe in them.

Cherry Blossoms

The background (sky, clouds and border) is a weaving, my first major weaving, that I created in an upcycled/recycled picture frame.  

The tree branches, cherry blossoms, leaves and buds are freeform crochet.  

Some of the branches are crocheted over wire to give the branches the three dimensional effect of coming out of the frame.  

I created this piece to hang on my living room wall as part of an Asian themed living room which we are designing.  

I just love cherry blossoms, they are so beautiful!

Free Form Shawl

I live in Florida, and I totally love it here!  In thinking of the theme for this Challenge, in my yard I have a wide variety of palm trees, fruit and nut trees (orange, lemon, grapefruit, papaya, mango, avocado to name a few), fruiting vines and much more.  

I love a yard filled with trees, flowers and growing things.  I particularly love bougainvilleas.  In previous places I lived, I grew a lot of house plants inside in an attempt to bring the outdoors and spring inside during the long cold winters.  Here in Florida all my previous house plants now grow in my yard, (i.e. coleus, crotons, philodendrons).  

From my deck I have a view of both the Manatee and Braden Rivers.  My Shawl is an abstract interpretation of all of that Flora and Fauna here in my yard, here in Florida, and a little blue thrown to represent the rivers. I also love bike riding the trials, sunsets on the beach and kayaking all the Florida water trails.

Free Form Crochet Poncho.  

Being a scuba diver, when I think of the theme of "The Ocean/The Color of Water" I think of an underwater coral reef.  Coral reefs are teaming with sea life and lots of color.  In this poncho I combined all types of textures of yarn that remind me of the different marine life living in a reef, such as corals, sponges, starfish, turtles, sea anemones and much more.  

This was a very fun project to create, and my first free form garment.

I created this wall hanging for a large wall in my newly remodeled kitchen and dining room.  My colors in here are blue and white.  I had fun creating with all shades of blue, and loved incorporating all the different, wonderful textures of yarn into the piece.  I also incorporated 8 of my handmade glass (lampwork) beads into the piece and five pieces of fused glass.  I deviated from the 'one color' theme slightly in my fused glass pieces only.  They are fused on a blue/white streaky background glass with bits of dichroic and other glass in multiple colors fused onto them.  The fused glass pieces have been created to go along with several other 6" square glass tiles that I have made and placed around the room, and 48 fused glass drawer and door pulls I made for my new kitchen cabinets in same blue glass.  Each tile/fused glass piece and each door/drawer pull are one-of-a-kind.
