This garment is my interpretation of the above quote. 

I have tried to depict the colourful whirlpools and patterns of the galaxy with a continuous black line of space between for life eternal.

Gumnut baby

This neck adornment depicts the beautiful red colours of a native Australian flowering gum. Hiding amongst the cascading gum leaves is a little gum nut baby. This mythical little cutie is the creation of the legendary Australian author and illustrator, May Gibbs who has been delighting readers with her stories of the bush for 100 years. Her first book “Gumnut babies” was first published in 1916. 

We have one of these beautiful trees in our back garden.

Amongst the waves

I love cruising the oceans and I am fascinated with the way the colours change from the deepest navy blues to turquoise greens the closer you get to land. I have tried to depict the colours of the deep and the sparkle on the surface and also the white foam as the waves come crashing to the shore.

I have used some of my own hand dyed wool as well as commercial wool plus metallic threads and novelty yarns.

La Luna

When darkness falls and colours all

turn black and grey and white.

Shadows creep and ghostly trees

Stand silent in the night.

Frost on the ground, and stars all around

and everything is bright,

When the full moons rises in the sky and

beams its silvery light.

I chose grey as my colour using many shades from black to white including silver for a touch of sparkle. I have always had a fascination with silhouettes of trees against the full moon and I wanted to capture the feeling of a cold frosty landscape under a moonlit starry night.

I grew up on the side of a mountain in the Upper Yarra Valley in a small country town called Millgrove situated on the east side of Melbourne, Victoria Australia.

I have many memories of exploring the rich lush bushlands full of tree ferns and tall timbers with thick green and brown undergrowth. Sometimes we would be lucky and watch a lyrebird dancing on its nest if we were very quiet and still while listening to it imitating the bird life.

I have tried to capture the essence of these memories in this piece. The dappled sunlight trying to filter through the tall gum trees, the spring growth of the tree ferns and the damp mouldering undergrowth of the rain forest.
