Hermione Enjoys Her Garden!

This piece was inspired by a piece of clay sewer pipe, one foot long and 5 inches in diameter.  The pipe was produced by our local clay pipe manufacturing company, Gladding McBean, Inc.  I scrumbled many freeform flowers and other bits and then attached Hermione, one of my “rock star” dolls which is crocheted with a rock as the body. I added buttons and beads.  Hermione is enjoying her day in nature.

SECRET LADY

The inspiration for this 36x36 inch crocheted art piece is the Austrian painter, Gustav Klimt. In particular, his two portraits, The Kiss and Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer, both painted circa 1907. I like his use of bold geometrics, both circles and blocks and as I started my project, his work came to mind. While my piece is not reminiscent of either a kiss or a portrait of a living person, I was moved to interpret his style with various shapes and colors. I gave my piece its name because the woman is hidden within a block-like structure and must be looked for, much as the man and woman in The Kiss are hidden in their robes and Adele Bloch-Bauer is hidden within the  geometric pattern behind her.

The art piece is all crocheted using more than 30 colors and several different stitches/textures and hook sizes. The piece is attached to a 36x36 painted canvas and resides over my fireplace mantle.

Flight of Fantasy – A Bird’s Dream House

A little birdie told me, I have no place to be.
My mother flew away one day and forgot to take me .

We used to have a cozy nest, a place to call our home.
It had some leaves and twigs and things, but now I have to roam.

I sleep wherever I can find a spot, in places not so fine.
I dream of a house with flowers and garlands, a place that is just mine.

It may be a fantasy, but it could come true one day.
Come fly with me to wonderland, a place far, far away.
