2015 Beryl Maddalena

Beryl Maddalena

My piece is inspired by an early morning walk on the beach...the sun shining on some  wet, discarded plastic wrap which had obviously been there for some time.....and been shaped by the ebb and flow of the tide.

I used dry cleaners' plastic bags which I cut into strips and crocheted along with some heavy silver thread...for some areas I wrapped heavy electrical wire to give the piece dimension...

The piece is called   "Gone but not forgotten"  ..I lost one of my 'girls' to breast cancer five years ago..During my treatment I crocheted compulsively ...mostly hats to cover my bald head !   When I tired of that I started making small pieces for no particular purpose but using only white and cream yarns....which ultimately found their present home on the form which a friend had given me during that difficult time...it was not planned...it simply evolved...
