Box of Games

 

Recently I have had a passion for re-using and covering boxes of various shapes and sizes.  For this challenge I chose to cover a box that will contain a pack of cards and dice.  Chocolates may also be included as prizes for winning a game.

 

Although I started with good intentions to follow the instructions by selecting bags of different yarns spread all around me, I have been freeforming for so many years my inner creative spirit took over and I just went with the flow.

'A Nod to Klimt'

My entry this year has been made in memory of our good friend Liz Keltie who died last year, she would have loved this year's theme.

I chose jewel like colours, flowing lines and mosaic style as my nod to Gustav Klimt whose art I love.

A peaceful walk above the city

This piece was inspired by a holiday exploring the gardens of New England many years ago.  I remember walking through a park outside Boston looking down on the city.  

Although inspired by Boston it doesn't represent the Boston skyline.

Jude’s Twister

A tornado or twister is a violent and rapidly rotating column of air which is in contact with both the ground and the base of a cumulonimbus cloud.  Whilst to the observer, from a safe distance, a tornado can be a spectacular sight, to those in it’s path it leaves chaos and devastation.

I hope I never experience the real thing, my twister is soft and gentle and would not hurt a fly. The base and funnel are made of felt whilst the decoration is mesh and freeform crochet and its stands approximately twelve inches high.

'A Slice through Time'

The study of growth rings (Dendrochronology) indicates the effect of climate change of each passing year. 

 As with humans, life can be tough for trees, the effects of rain, drought, fire, disease and injury as well as air pollution all leave their mark in the growth rings. 

 In the same way life can leave it’s mark on we humans, yet given the right conditions we, and the trees, will flourish taking our strength from our inner core.

A Stroll Along the Shore

I am lucky to live in Bridlington, a small, seaside town in East Yorkshire where I can walk on the beach whenever I want.  However I confess that I have yet to see the colours within my shawl on the Bridlington beach,  but the Mediterranean well that's a different matter. 

 I love the way the waves form circular patterns along the shore as the tide goes in and out.

Initially this project was named 'a midnight stroll along the shore' as the yarns have specks of glitter, which was intended to be a reflection of the moon on the ocean.  As the glitter does not show at all on the photographs the name had to change.
