Daydreams of Cityscapes

 

Cityscapes reflects my dream of living in the big city for a year. Tall buildings and lights fascinate me. 

Inspirations include The Shard and The Gherkin, both in London, and the Guggenheim in New York City. 

The purple building with its bright windows and rooftop garden is where I would live.

The Abyss

The chaos of my creativity seeps outward from The Abyss, a pit filled with all my life experiences and feelings. 

The center of darkness, like the birthplace of diamonds, fills with pressure and sends both waves and sinuous arms to the conscious world to become manifest. 

The fire within always burns with smoldering angst, smoky shadows, and fiery outbursts. 

(Translation: My creative inspiration comes from my life which had some hard times.)

The Colors of Pain

Chronic continuous pain colors everything with a life-shifting focus. 

The blue is time when the pain is not the defining focus of consciousness. Other colors pulsate through life, lasting from a pinprick of moment to years. Pain is physical. Pain is mental. Pain is emotional. Pain is. Pain binds a person to a flatness of life, and textural interest is created from its shades and shapes.

Weather Circles

First I made wind. The aspects that most affect me in my new home are Wind, Sun/Heat, Rain/Snow, Pressure (barometric), and Blue Skies.

Little did I think that my home would be hit by a tornado only a week after I finished the circles. 

All is well, and these will be outdoors on temperate days and indoors otherwise.

Softly, softly, my feet snuggle into the fine wool and mohair ripples of the rug that remind me of ripples in nature like water eddying gently around rocks or leaves moving in a forest. So too, the rug reminds me of the ripples in my life, events and people that reshape my world. 

Ripples provide adventures, challenges, and interesting changes.

Made from Brown Sheep Burly Spun, Plymouth Yukon, and Checkheaton Gusto 10, all super bulky yarns of wool and mohair. About 18 x 24 inches.

Although palm trees are found all over Florida, most of them are not native to the area. Almost more native is the proliferation of palm trees in the vintage art deco buildings with gates, doors and windows sporting the curving palm fronds.

Four Times Ocean

Four Times Ocean was inspired by time-lapse photography and represents four qualities of light at the shore: sunrise, noon, sunset and midnight. 

The pieces, each approximately 16"x20" (41-51cm) include commercially made yarn and ribbon as well as yarns hand-dyed and/or hand-spun by me and others.
