Between The Tides

My inspiration came because of my many travel experiences around the world. Many shades and hints of color show up in bodies of water depending upon the light, plants and animals, sunlight and salt, and sunrise and sunset.

I have challenged myself to see how nuances of color can evolve using texture, a variety of yarns, different knitting and crochet techniques, and dyeing, painting, and batik. These design tools have merged together to create an intertwined seascape that moves along the shore.

Lilith Rising

A truly controversial figure, the goddess Lilith was purported by Rabbis in the 6th century to be Adam’s first wife, created at the same time from the same earth and equal to man. It’s said that she was banished from the Garden of Eden when she refused to be subservient to her husband. Other accounts claim she sprouted wings and flew away under her own volition. Demonized as unclean, a seductress or the demon queen, Lilith was portrayed by ancient scholars as lesser than her male counterpart.
I prefer the more feminist interpretation of her as the symbol of the powerful potential in all women. Women are often characterized in a negative light or even considered mad when they express their authentic voice by those afraid of our true nature. One thing is clear. Lilith had a great sense of herself, a mind of her own and wasn’t afraid to express it.

Freeform crochet with craft wire, steel hook, Kreinik threads, Czech glass beads, broken brass and rhinestone chains. It’s VERY sparkly!

With Open Arms and Open Eyes

Together, we travel through twists and turns,
glistening with adventures and treasures
to be discovered around each and every corner.

Obstacles and oddities, pirouettes and passions
all strung together, leading in different directions
yet still connected by the same thread.

All jewels on the same necklace.

I am in awe,
grateful to follow this string
to see where it leads me,
to savor where we’ve been together,
to appreciate where we are
and to explore what comes next.

Look closely. Go further.

It’s the ride of a lifetime.

Kreinik holographic and metallic threads, Swarovski rivolis, freshwater pearls, crystals and beads.

Every June, the streets in my neighborhood are canopied with jacaranda trees that explode into purple blossoms for three weeks. My heart and soul reawaken with this majesty of renewal and growth. Morning walks witness the splendor of violet petals that bejewel the sky and rain gently onto freshly mowed lawns.

I stand in awe.

I am a certifiable fiber fiend. A crazed yarn addict who definitely suffers from SABLE (stash aquired beyond lifetime expectancy). I've been known to stalk LYS and stay up way too late watching Ebay lots.
My motto? "There is no such thing as too much yarn."

This challenge has meant so many incredible things to me. Mainly it has been the chance to connect with and share my love of fiberart with friends far and wide who share the same obsession.
I also found myself working WAY outside my comfort zone and exploring a whole new world of color and fiber that I probably never would have since my goal was to use all of the yarns. I'm now looking at my stash in a whole new way. (And I think I need to go shopping...Wanna come?!)

During the challenge I wrote this poem, which is also the name of my piece:

"String Theory"

Weaving songs with sticks and string.
Passing along ancient, timeless knowledge.
Heart strings connecting each of us with yarn
In so many different colors and voices.
Strings that connect us to all that Is.
Who’ve ever woven the great cloth of life
Leaving small legacies for  those to come
so they’ll wonder too about the life that made them.
These beautiful things.
These endless connections.
I’m blessed to be on this journey.
