Native Colors

For this year's challenge I chose to use native plant colors -orange for California poppies, yellow for Beach Coreopsis, and greens for cactuses, and every leaf there is.

This piece is done entirely in crochet, even the knitted look stitches are done in slip stitch crochet. I used mohair blend yarns and a large hook as I wanted to create flowing light garment, just like nature is.

The Flow

I associate oceans and water with ease and flow, with changes and wind. I used variety of yarns and crochet techniques (like a slip stich crochet horizontal cable) in this piece, and used flowing lines. I even got to use a scrumble I had for several years and until now couldn't find the project to use it for.  It will be fun to wrap myself into the goodness of the oceans. :)

For this challenge I chose to work with an upcycled sweater.  It has been washed on hot and shoulders were very tight and narrow.  I loved purple color and linen material, and I knew it would be a perfect freeform project to make it wearable again.

Purple is a color of intuition.  It balances cold (blue) and warm (red), stability and creativity, calm and activity, and therefore is also color of balance.  But mostly for me, it is a color of magic. When I connect to the depths of the amazing physical world we live in, I can feel and see magic all around. Magic in feeling sweet smell of the lilac flowers, sound of the wind and tree canopy symphony, purple jacaranda tree blossom rain, playful hummingbird flight...Life here on Earth is never ending delight in any moment, that I am connected and present.
Now this lovely sweater has a second life, and I have a purple linen sweater.

Mother Earth means so many things to me - fascinating place to live, home, playground, part of me and others around me, amazing animals, beautiful plants and plants for medicine, inspiration in sounds and colors, and textures, and shapes. I chose to use my favorite colors - jewel tones for this necklace. One of the things that Earth and freeform crochet have in common is organic free flowing forms. So I chose natural yarns and beads in rich earthy colors, and let my intuition guide me in crocheting it.
Can't wait to see, what others created.

Romance d'Amour is a beautiful guitar piece, written in 19th century by unknown composer, one of my favorite pieces to play and to listen to. The music has two parts -one is bright and light and the other one is melancholic and a bit sad. I created this neck warmer, in which those parts are represented with pinks, reds, greys and blacks. They are intermingling and changing into each other. I used variety of yarns and different stitches. I wanted to crochet a beautiful, elegant, and lively piece just like that Spanish melody.
