You can FOLLOW this site to be notified of new posts etc. The top box in the right hand column (FOLLOW US FOR UPDATES) will notify you when new posts are posted here.

There is a 'comments' area at the bottom of each entry, so please leave a message for the artists on your thoughts and praises for them there. The artists can reply to you there too.

The Annual Challenge

Every year we have a vote on what is going to be our inspiration theme for the next challenge.

The winning theme is announced on January 1st. and we then have a few months to design and create our free form fiberart piece for that theme.

The final photos are then collected and put into an online gallery and a published book.

All the book sale profits are donated to the charity which has also been voted on by our members.

No one is allowed to show or share photos of their works until after the gallery has 'gone live' online and the book has been published.
This makes a very exciting show when everyone sees each others fiberart pieces for the very first time.

The Life Cycle of a Leaf

From a newly unfurling pale green leaf, to the white/grey decaying leaf skeleton.
This work depicts the ever changing pattern of a leaf, from its resplendent beginnings to its ultimate decomposition.
I follow the leaf as it changes shape and colour through the months, the changing seasons, and the changing weather patterns of a year.
The central leaf skeleton is an homage to every leaf which withers away beneath the tree that first gave it life,
and returns its nutrients to the earth to be passed on to the next generation of foliage.

I chose Hyperbolic as a pattern in nature. Hyperbolic is a way to use the mathematical geometric principle, hyperbolic plane or spiral, in crochet.

All my pieces are created with my own handspun yarn using silk, alpaca, wool or mohair.

Banded Agates

I have always loved collecting stones and rocks from the beach and at mineral fairs, and find the structures of semi precious stones very attractive. One of my favourites is banded agates.

For this project I used crochet, couching by machine and marbling on fabric to make the agate slices. These are needle felted and sewn onto a wet felted background, based on the beautiful marble Scotsman Steps in Edinburgh, which I walked down last time I was home, in April.

I went to a nearby beach here in Moss to find a nice real stone background for the photo.

I enjoyed this year’s challenge, and hope that everyone else did too. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s projects.
