The colors, textures and forms I see in the hills outside my window are
constantly changing; never more so than this year when we experienced the worst
fires in over fifty years followed by devastating mudslides that destroyed many
neighborhood properties. For months the hills were barren and gray and covered
in ash and mud. But now new shrubs are emerging and trees are showing new
growth. Somehow the colors seem more gentle and subdued than in the past
and somehow quieter and more subtle.
