Poem: Art Nouveau in its Freeform Modern Style
Harmony in curves and hues
crocheted with fine cotton thread
plant-like in their floral forms
all curvatures aligned in asymmetry.
Circular shapes and arches of color
joined in red, gold, lilac, and black
plus, purple, peach, green, and blues
with various motifs in their décor.
My inspiration stems from spring wildflowers and floral trees. Freeform crochet and bead weaving encompass my artwork. Thank you to our kittens for just observing!

My entry this year is inspired by the beautiful artwork of Margaret MacDonald Mackintosh, entitled Summer, 1894.
I love the Art Nouveau style, and wanted to find something Scottish to base my piece on. Charles Rennie MacIntosh came to mind first, but then I found some lovely pieces by Margaret and fell in love with this one.
I used nuno felting for the background, then added crochet, embroidered and appliqued details to complete my entry.

A study of "Art Nouveau"
Looking at the Art Nouveau book I had,
I understood that is composed of curves and vine-like patterns.
I think I couldn't express it on my freeform crocheting well.
I wish I could make it with more unevenness
...I'm thinking now.
It is a study sized about 30cm×23cm.

Much of Art Nouveau consists of repetitive curves, lines, circles and curls, using freeform crochet methods presented a challenge for this piece. In keeping with the aesthetics of Art Nouveau architecture, this work required the detail to be narrow and smaller than in my past freeform work. The flowers, vase, and dimensional wrought iron are all made in a freeform method without any pattern or written direction, but needed finesse to stay within the Art Nouveau atheistic.

Watching the Sunset
As I have just recently acquired a black rescue cat I decided to incorporate him in my work, and thought this was appropriate. I was also thinking of stained glass lamps, hence the extra use of black.
